Attached are all the Colour Matings associated with pigeons. The foundation of all pigeon colours are as listed below. There are a lot of colour modifiers which affect the colour but the underlying colours are as listed.
Patterns have not been considered and for the ease of understanding the colours listed are for bars. But remember genetically anything listed for Mealy is also applicable for Ash Red likewise Cream would be Ash Yellow, Blue would be Black, Silver would be Dun, Brown would be Chocolate and Khaki would be Khaki or Drab.
Some offspring are the result of a crossover mechanism and remember that the crossover mechanism can affect any pairing and if the reduced gene was brought into the equation the outcome would be huge there is also a mechanism known as the double crossover but is fairly rare, so do not be to eager to condemn should you not get one of the colours listed below from that particular pairing, always remember you are not watching your birds all the time and cross treading does take place or indeed one of the rarer crossovers has happened..
The colour gene is on the same chromosome as the sex chromosome, therefore the Cock has two colour genes and the hen only one. On the same chromosome you will find the Almond gene also the dilute gene that is catered for below and the reduced gene but do not try and understand these at this stage otherwise confusion will take place.
Always remember there are only three coloured pigeons Red, Blue and Brown. Some of you will say what about Andalusions and Prints. These are what are known as colour modifiers but underneath the colour you see is one of the three basic colours. Even Red and Yellow spangles are what is known as recessive Red and it’s dilute and are therefore colour modifiers. Black is also a colour modifier in the form of a spread gene not a pattern gene as some think. As we are not dealing with patterns I will refer to the barred colours of Red and Blue when giving the breeding expectancies.
Sex Linked mating is when the hen is dominate in colour over the cock and therefore all cock birds produced will be the colour of the hen and all hens produced will be the colours (remember the hidden one) of the cock.
