Thanks Neil. I Didn’t think I’d get any replies. But, According to your response I just need to keep doing what I’ve been doing right from the start because I feed my west’s on a combination of Buckton’s VIP, Breed & Wean, Breeding mix and Conditioner. So they get a good variety of grain and I give them multi vitamins in there water every three days plus various grits daily, my lofts and aviary’s are very well ventilated and the roosting perches are away from drafts. But a lot of that is basic pigeon keeping. I believe any bird will respond to a routine and your right Neil I just need to keep at it and I will get there on my own. But the reason Is I went to last years Stafford Show to look at the west’s on show and my first opinion was they looked as if there feathers were artificial and I thought they’d been washed and blow dried, the next day I sat with my birds for some time and there was a difference. I also went to the Federation Show witch was at Stafford and I got the opportunity to handle some of the birds and they had a lot of body, also one of the birds I handled was the Khaki Self hen belonging to Jones & Balchin and I thought I was handling a chicken disguised as a west this is why I thought I need to get some body on my birds to compete at the shows. I think the west gets better as it gets older. Because most of the show winners are 2 to 3 years old but the west looks good no matter what size it is. But I must say at first I just wanted to fly them I wasn’t intending to show. Anyway Neil Id like to thank yourself and Dave Walters for your reply’s. Looking forward to the Shows……Dave Christon.
